Newly qualified teachers are underpaid nationwide
RNZ released an article regarding newly qualified teachers being severely underpaid in New Zealand and some going months without the correct salary that aligns with their qualifications. Athina talked to Gabby Richardson a newly qualified teacher about her experience entering the teaching workforce.

Mind the Gap NZ pushing for a pay transparency regime
The government is considering putting a pay transparency regime in place. Employees will be able to compare their wages to other people working in their sector, with the hopes that they will be able to use this information to be paid fairly.
Last year, organisation ‘Mind The Gap NZ’ provided a policy recommendation and course for change on ethnic and gender pay reporting for Aotearoa. The Gender pay gap was 9.1% in the June 2021 quarter, where it has stayed for the past decade, and the gap between a European Male employees and a Pacifika woman is 27%. And Disabled people in Aotearoa face a pay gap of 18%.

Woof! decides to keep vaccine passes as a condition of entry

Vaccine passes are no longer required in Aotearoa as of midnight Monday (4th of April). Without government mandates, few businesses have kept vaccine passes in place. Ōtepoti bar Woof! has decided to keep vaccine passes as a condition of entry. Athina Koncke spoke to Dudley Benson (co-owner of Woof!) about why they made this decision, and what it represents.
