THURSDAY 23RD APRIL 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Blood Ceremony - The Eldritch Dark

What if Ian Anderson was into Gardnerian Wicca? Blood Ceremony answer that question in spades and we dove into their 2013 album The Eldritch Dark. Easily some of the spookiest flutes that will ever play on this show.

Black Sabbath - Cornucopia
Angel Witch - Sorcerers
Flotsam & Jetsam - Escape from Within
Blue Oyster Cult - Nosferatu
Alice Cooper - Dead Babies
Budgie - Homicidal Suicidal
Thin Lizzy - Old Moon Madness
Uriah Heep - Too Scared to Run
Blood Ceremony - The Eldritch Dark (full album)

A quick note that we might come back to Blood Ceremony at some point because I had a lot more to say about how the band build on British occultism and Gardernian Wicca in their music.

THURSDAY 16TH APRIL 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race

We did a death metal album! Given it's a horror and metal themed show it took us long enough, but we made sure to inaugurate death metal into the roster with one of the strongest metal albums of 2019 - Blood Incantation's arcane ancient Annunaki truth ritual Hidden History of the Human Race. I promise that at some point we'll get onto the real gory early '90s brutal death and grindcore, but that will have to be for later.

Death - Killing Spree
Celtic Frost - Inner Sanctum
Venom - Witching Hour
Rigor Mortis - Mummified
Spectral Voice - Thresholds Beyond
Iron Maiden - Revelations
Jaguar - Axe Crazy
Manilla Road - Return of the Old Ones
Slayer - The Antichrist
Cthe'ilist - Passage into the Xexanotth
Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race (full album)

THURSDAY 9TH APRIL 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone

Dipping our toes into the works of mystical internet music man and in some respects godfather of meme culture Neil Cicierega, with his band Lemon Demon's 2016 urban legend synthpop odyssee Spirit Phone. Took the opportunity to talk a bit about how horror presents itself in a myriad ways, and the elasticity of what we consider to be horror.

W.A.S.P - Phantoms in the Mirror
Dance with the Dead - Eyes of Madness
Perturbator - Grim Heart
Diamond Head - Bones
Agent Steel - Into the Nowhere
Stormwitch - Priest of Evil
Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone (full album)

THURSDAY 2ND APRIL 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: King Diamond - Abigail & Abigail II

A double album episode with one of the most haunted musicians in metal, King Diamond. We took a dive into his seminal 1987 concept album Abigail and followed it up with the sequel released some 15 years later, Abigail II - The Revenge from 2002. Had a chat about KDs skill as a storyteller with metal as his medium and the underappreciation of just how much guitarist Andy LaRoque brings to the band.

King Diamond - Abigail (full album)
King Diamond - Abigail II - The Revenge (full album)

There are some things that will change due to the lockdown and remain in place until at least Level 2, but on the listener end the only one is that going forward Dr Rot's gonna be joined by a new cohost - Professor Flesh. This is so the show can still have multiple people onboard throughout lockdown, the good Professor will stick around though not in every episode after this is over too.

THURSDAY 12TH MARCH 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend

Travelling away into the distant past to 1970 to spend some time with one of the earliest inspirations for doom metal, the self-titled debut of German prog rock pioneers Lucifer's Friend. And yes, I know, following a power metal episode with a prog rock episode is dangerous levels of nerd.

Deep Purple - Why Didn't Rosemary?
Necromandus - Orexis of Death
Tygers of Pan Tang - Hellbound
Danzig - End of Time
Darkstar - Spectre
Rush - The Twilight Zone
Van Der Graaf Generator - Necromancer
Pagan Alter - The Rising of the Dark Lord
The 13th Floor Elevators - Reverberation (Doubt)
Dust - Learning to Die
Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend (full album)

I really recommend checking out the Lucifer's Friend official website, it's worth a nostalgia chuckle at the least.

THURSDAY 5TH MARCH 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Iced Earth - Horror Show

A power metal episode? Yup, a power metal episode. We traipsed through the crypts of classic horror cinema with Iced Earth's thematic 2001 concept album Horror Show.

Brocas Helm - Cry of the Banshee
Manilla Road - Necropolis
Helloween - We Damn the Night
Norden Light - No Escape
Grave Digger - The Reaper
Dio - Dream Evil
Iced Earth - Horror Show (full album)

A couple notes on the content of the album. Firstly a minor addition to the album info that on top of the recording done at Morrisound Studios a few extra recordings are credited to 'Schaffer Sound' studio (which is probably just Jon Schaffer's house).

Many of the lyrics are lifted from the films which inspired the songs on this album with the exceptions of Jack inspired by the real life murders of Jack the Ripper, Ghost of Freedom based on an original story by vocalist Matt Barlow, and Transylvania which is an instrumental Iron Maiden cover. The chorus to Wolf is adapted from a poem recited in 1941s The Wolf Man, the chorus to Damien is likewise lifted from The Omen while the spoken word section is adapted from a speech in Omen III: The Final Conflict, and Dracula includes a quote from Deuteronomy 12:23 likely pulled from the 1992 Coppola adaption Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I might add that my favourite song from the album, Dragons Child, happens to be inspired by one of my favourite classic horror films - Creature from the Black Lagoon.

THURSDAY 27TH FEBRUARY 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Haunted Garage - Possession Park

Spat out of the late-'80s malaise of shock rock, budget Americana, and low-quality b-movie schlock that spawned the likes of Green Jello and GWAR; Haunted Garage never broke out of the underground LA scene it once dominated. We dug up their only full length album, Possession Park, to party in the graveyard with its blend of horror punk & crossover thrash.

Black Sabbath - Disturbing the Priest
Cloven Hoof - Cloven Hoof
Queensryche - Gonna Get Close To You
Def Leppard - Answer to the Master
The Plasmatics - The Damned
Bathory - Call from the Grave
Exodus - Strike of the Beast
Judas Priest - Grinder
Haunted Garage - Possession Park (full album)
Misfits - Bloodfeast
Mastodon - Halloween

THURSDAY 20TH FEBRUARY 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Carpenter Brut - Leather Teeth

Descending into the neon-washed, synth-fueled hell of late-'80s slasher + glam metal nostalgia with Carpenter Brut's grissly concept album/homage to the rock 'n' roll horror films of the era about a disfigured nerd who become a murderous underground metal icon.

Perturbator - Humans Are Such Easy Prey
Dance With The Dead - Scar
Claudio Simonetti's Goblin - Brain Zero One
Ministry - Everyday Is Like Halloween
The Electric Hellfire Club - Invocation/Age of Fire
Terrortron - March to the Alter
M.A.D.E.S/Daniel Deluxe - Nightkiller (Daniel Deluxe remix)
Carpenter Brut - Leather Teeth (full album)
Type O Negative - Creepy Green Light
Alien Sex Fiend - Mine's Full of Maggots
Xetrovoid - Dark Streets

There isn't much available about Carpenter Brut/Franck Huesco either as a person or as a musical act, he's kept himself quite enigmatic in that respect. Nevertheless these interviews in GRIMM Gent, Decibel, and Vehlinggo were pretty useful. Also the films featured in the music video for Beware The Beast were Trick or Treat (1986), The Dungeonmaster (1984), Black Roses (1988), Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare (1987), and Shock 'Em Dead (1991). Can't speak to the others but Trick or Treat at least is a pretty fun ride.

THURSDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 2020
Haunting the Studio w./ Dr Rot: Black Sabbath - Headless Cross

Feeling the spirits of the damned in the air with Black Sabbath's forgotten cult-classic Headless Cross, from the oft. maligned or ignored Tony Martin era.

Wolfsbane - Killing Machine
Possessed - Shadowcult
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
Alice Cooper - Skeletons in the Closet
Kavinsky - Pacific Coast Highway
Twisted Sister - Burn in Hell
Black Sabbath - Headless Cross (full album)
W.A.S.P. - Tormentor
Blue Oyster Cult - Joan Crawford
